Happy Mother’s Day!!

Thanks to Milady Insanity and Rhian, I have blogging topics! Yeeha!

But today I want to talk about something totally wholesome (well, except for the part where I talk about the fountain of pee, maybe) Today is my First Mother’s Day Ever. Wow. It’s been a looong time coming. Let me count…It’s been EIGHT years in the making, in fact.

I’m sure many of you know a woman who is infertile, or maybe you, yourself, are infertile. *waves* Well, apparently I am too. Well, I guess I am, anyway. See, I just never became pregnant. Not for six years of trying. (And it wasn’t The Dude, my husband. His swimmers checked out fine).

I really wanted to be a mom, and I’d known since I was a wee bitty little kid that I would have one daughter. One. Daughter. No more, no less. And not a boy, either — a little girl. I couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t arriving. Where was she?? I KNEW my daughter had to be out there in the ether somewhere!

So after six years and no baby, we had to start looking at why it wasn’t happening. Should we do fertility testing? Should we try artificial insemination?

And then our thoughts turned to adoption. We thought, why go to extraordinary means to bring another baby into the world when there are already so many who need homes? (PLEASE, this is not a slam to all who have gone the fertility drug/artificial insemination route. Everyone has to choose the path best suited.)

I always had the drive to be a mom, but never had the drive some women do to actually be pregnant. Plus my husband and I didn’t have any pressing need to pass on our genes, (they really aren’t all that exceptional), so we thought. And thought. Then thought some more. After the decision had been made, we investigated all our options for adoption and went with the one that suited us best.

The result? Our beautiful, gorgeous daughter, the Divine Miss S…..

***Thanks to all who offered such warm comments. :) I did say her picture would only be up for a limited time.***

She is the best thing that ever happened to us, even when I take her diaper off three seconds too soon and experience the Great Fountain of Pee Pee (and she laughs and laughs).

But I ask that if you know someone who is infertile and who really wants a child…be gentle and kind with her today.

  1. Awww… she’s so cute!

    Happy First Mother’s day, Anya!

  2. OMG Anya. She is A-DOR-ABLE. I am so glad you shared her with us. She has your forhead and chin, LOL. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHOWING HER FOR A LIMITED TIME.

My brother and sister-in-law tried the drugs and the artificial insemination thing. My brother’s swimmers weren’t that hot at swimming, strike one. My sister-in-law went thru early menopause, strick two. The med’s that was to reverse the menopause sent her further into menopause, strick three. They got some donor eggs and out of the six that got fertilized only one girl made it. I am sure they spent as much money and time as you two did getting Divine Miss S.

  3. So, did you finally quit the cubicle rat race? Can’t wait for Survivor tonight.

  4. Milady — Thank you! We think she’s the cutest baby ever in the history of the world, of course.

Daun Ann — I know! She totally does! LOL. She’s got my chubby cheeks too.

Oh, yes, it can be a real struggle either way. I know some couples who have had no problem once they started down the fertility treatment road, and others who had LOTS of trouble. The adoption process was a long, long road for us, but it was all worth it. Just as I’m certain your little niece was more than worth it. :)
