Drop a person midway through a series? Even if the publisher's losing money on the series and sales aren't good enough (whatever that means), the fans of the series -- even if there's only one -- deserve to read it to its conclusion, especially if it was pitched as a three-book series, for example. Maybe we need some new publishing models or deals where it's okay to walk in with a three-book series and to get a commitment on all three being published. What would happen if it takes three books for this author to get wider notice? Isn't that a risk worth taking, especially if that wider notice demands a second (or more) print run?
