By mutual decree year's ago, we cancelled all the fancy dinner's out and expensive jewelry purchases, and opted for a bouquet of mixed flowers from the grocery store, a mocha frapp from Starbuck's and a home cooked meal from my hubby (that man can cook!). Then we pop a movie in the dvd player and just snuggle for a while. I think the trick to a lasting relationship is making your partner feel loved and special everyday of the year, not just one date on a calendar.
