***THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED***

The winner of yesterday’s book, What Happens in Vegas…After Dark, is Alice M., who said, “My favorite places to visit are always in the Caribbean. My family is from Puerto Rico, and I never get tired of going home to visit, eating lots of good food and lounging on the beaches….” Congrats! Please drop me an email, Alice! Today’s book……

When you’re a half incubus, your reputation precedes you…

All eyes are on Gabriel Mac Braire the day he makes his first appearance in the Seelie Court, including those of Aislinn Finvarra. Despite deep bitterness over her last failed relationship, Aislinn cannot help but be curious about the half incubus who is known to possess dark magick, both lethal and sexual in nature. Rumors abound of the women who have become enslaved to his irresistible charms.

So when the Summer Queen of the fae orders Aislinn herself to act as his guide in the court, she is understandably on guard. She’s fallen under the spell of far less persuasive men before. In addition, Gabriel might be more than he seems and his true mission is far from innocent.

This time, Aislinn must protect not only her heart, but her very life…

This is the first book in the Dark Enchantment series. I wrote all these books to stand alone, but I’ve found most people like to start at the beginning and read in order. How about you? Do you hop around within a series? Do you enjoy series? If so, what do you like about them?

  1. Although I know in a series that each book can usually stand on it own to read, I prefer to start at the beginning and then continue in the order they were written. Sometime I think it helps to understand what has happened earlier and also might give you a little more insight to secondary characters and situations that develop.

  2. I like to read books in order in a series. Sometimes I will stumble into the middle of a series when I find the latest book in a series at my library on the New Release section, but then I like to go back to the beginning and go in order. Otherwise, if you read out of order, you are getting unintentional spoilers. I do like series, because they have characters that you already are familiar with, and are invested in.

  3. I enjoy series and I prefer to read in order. So much so that I have a few unread books on my shelves because I haven’t read the first book in the series yet. I have been spoiled a few times by starting in the middle of the series.

  4. I love series. I like to start from the beginning and reading them in order.
I like that you get glimpses into the characters from previous books.

  5. I love series, because we have more time to explore the world the author created and fantastic secondary characters will get their story :) but I’ve to start at the beginning because sometimes there will be spoilers and I try to avoid them *g*

  6. I prefer reading a series in order, because if I start in the middle of then it spoils what happened in the previous books.

  7. I prefer to read series in order, I just cant get myself to skip books! If the 1st book isn’t that good I’ll probably don’t bother with the next one which isn’t always a good thing.

  8. I have made the mistake of reading out of order a few times and it drove me nuts. I like to start at the beginning and read in order.

  9. i love series, they keep the story going, and i always start at the begging or i’ll just get confused in the middle

  10. It depends on how interconnected a series is as to whether or not I feel the need to read it in order. Mostly I do read in order if I can, but sometimes I’ll hear good things about an author and pick up something that turns out to be from the middle of a series. I do tend to like series though, at least if I like the author, it gives me something to look forward to after I finish reading one book to know that there’s another coming out later.

  11. I usually read a series straight through. Easier to keep track of things that way.

  12. I NEVER hop or start at any book other than the first one. Can’t do it. I’m so thankful to live in the internet age- if I see a book that looks good, I’ll write it down, then look up at home if it’s part of a series. If it is, and not the first, I’ll order the first one. Anal much?

  13. I like to start at the beginning but if a mid-series book ends up in my hands I don’t shun it! I just hopped in mid-series to the Cal Leandros books and I LOVED it. :D

  14. I enjoy reading series. I love the anticipation of the next book. I do like to read books in order I fell I have a better understand of the characters and where they come from. I guess I do like series better because I dont think I can truly get all the information I need about a character in just one book.

  15. I hop around unless I have the first book of a series. Then I’ll start at the beginning. I enjoy reading a series because I like to read about some of the same characters and find out what’s in store for them.

  16. If I get books out of order, I will read them as I get them, but then reread them in order later to enjoy the series as a whole. Love series… seeing characters again and seeing others have their chance at a HEA!

  17. I really enjoy series.. I like getting to view the the secondary characters’ stories, getting continuous glimpses into the lives of past main characters, seeing how things all tie-in/ are connected etc.

I generally prefer to read my series in order, however I have skipped around a bit.

  18. I love reading series best of all because I believe it makes you understand the character a little better when you can revisit them through several different books. I prefer to read my series in order simply because if you read a newer book first oftentimes too much is given away about a previous story and then that book isn’t such a great read. There have been times when I’ve held off for a year or more on reading a series because I couldn’t find the first or second book of the series. Thankfully now there is Amazon to solve that problem.

  19. I love series because it gives me more of a world and usually we see little snippets of beloved characters lives in later books.
And whenever possible I read a series in order. Have a couple in which the author wrote them out of chronological order. Annoying.

  20. I don’t hop around in the series, I read in order.

  21. i prefer to start at the begining because i find that there are usually somethings that carry over from book to book that can be confusing if i try to start in any other book.

  22. I prefer to read a series in order. If I do not know it is a series and grab a book in the middle, I will go back and start at the beginning if I like the book.

  23. The first time I read a series, I try to read it in order. When I re-read it, I like to skip around.

  24. I love reading series and I am a stickler for reading them in order.

  25. I love series. I like to read the books in order and sometimes wait until all the books are out before starting them. There are times when I do read a series out of order.

  26. I read series in order because the accumultion of knowledge about the world and the characters enhances the enjoyment of the books.

  27. I have to read series in order. There are times when I randomly pick up a book in the library or at the bookstore and find out later that it was part of a series, I then start from the beginning. I don’t mind waiting for new books in a series to come out either, because I usually then reread the entire series before reading the new one.

I like series because they usually have characters from other books come back in the new one. I especially like those that stick with the same hero/heroine and just continues his/her story.

  28. I prefer to read in order but like when they can stand alone. I enjoy series because you get to know the characters better and even after their book is done you don’t have to let them go. :)

  29. I love a great series and have quite a few on my auto-buy list. I am definitely one that likes to start at the beginning, and love when old characters drop by and let us know how they are doing.

  30. I love a good series and I like to start at the begining. I like a series because it expands on the story and allows characters to be more fleshed out in my opinion. Plus if there are characters (well like secondary characters) that I connect with I like to see them get to have their own story so I can learn more about them.

  31. I enjoy series and usually read them in order. I didn’t realize these were meant to be stand alone. I had missed one and had thought I wouldn’t be able to “catch up” so had temporarily put the series aside, but now I know that I can I’ll pick it back up! Thanks!

  32. I love series! Being to revisit characters after we’ve met them is a treat! But when I do get wrapped into a new series I definitely have to go back and read the beginning stories.

  33. I do enjoy series, especially when characters recur. Heather Graham, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, Suzanne Brockman, Catherine Coulter, JR Ward… all can stand alone, but all build on the previous stories…

  34. I love series and try to start at the beginning. If I pick up a book that is in the middle of a series, I will generally try to go back and start at the beginning and read them in order, if I enjoyed the first book I read.

  35. I usually prefer to read in order, but I have been known to jump. But only when it comes to PNR that have a new couple in each book.

  36. I have to say that I am very firm about starting a series at the beginning and reading the books in order! I like being able to see the world that is being built and how the characters change and grow over time/events, but yes it is also a bit of my OCD:)

  37. Oh I love series! Oh most cases I try and start at the beginning of the series unless I stumble across a book that’s in the middle of the series.

I hate to admit it but when it comes to series order I’m sort of a stickler for books being read in the order they’re supposed to be read, the one exception to this rule is that if I somehow find out that they don’t necessarily have to be read in order.

That’s the only time I may read books out of order.

Like I said I love series and if I immediately grow to love the characters from the first book I can’t wait to see those characters again in the following books, I also love being introduced to new characters as well as getting reacquainted with the characters world!

  38. I love series. Especially when the main characters are the same throughout.

When the series is about different characters in the same world, I don’t mind hopping about but usually I prefer to read a series in order.

  39. Reading series is a delicious pleasure. It would be a sacrilege to NOT read them in order. Each new release is greeted with anticipation & joy. When a series finishes: it’s time to go hunting.

  40. Love to read series back to back. even if it’s a stand alone book in the series, i need to know the first story or background of the seies.
