Book of the Day: The Vampire’s Quest, by Vivi Anna

vamp

After escaping from the Otherworld Crime Unit, Kellen Falcon came to Nouveau Monde to crack a rare blood disease. But the European hotbed of temptation yielded sport no vampire could resist—criminologist Sophie St. Clair. And with only days to live, Kellen sought sweet release from her to escape a savage past.

The lycan beauty wasn’t one to stray from her pact. But an investigation into a downtown bombing now tied the two together. And it wasn’t long before Kellen’s smoldering eyes and Sophie’s fierce desire for this vampire put her loyalties to the test….

Author Bio: Frequently on Recommended Reading lists, award-winning Canadian author, Vivi Anna likes to burn up the pages with her unique brand of fantasy fiction. Whether it’s in the Amazon jungle, an apocalyptic future, or the otherworld city of Necropolis, Vivi always writes fast paced action-adventure with strong independent women that can kick some butt, and dark delicious heroes to kill for.

Interview Questions:

1.) How did you get started in writing and how long have you been doing it? I started writing short erotic stories for adult magazines to make some quick money back in 2001. Then I started writing screenplays, wrote six, got all of them read a lot but even after some interest from various producers I never sold. So I got discouraged and decided to write books instead. That was in 2003. I started in epublishing, then made the move to NY in 2005. So I’ve been actively pursuing a writing career for eight years.

2.) What genres/subgenres are your favorites to write within and do you have any aspirations to write outside your current genres/subgenres. Try something new? I love writing anything paranormal. I’m currently writing urban fantasy and trying my hand at paranormal young adult. I’d love to one day try and write a huge space opera, ala Battlestar Galactica.

3.) What are you working on now and what releases do you have coming up? I’m working on book six of the Valorian Chronicles. Book 4, The Vampire’s Quest is out now, and coming soon will be book 5, The Vampire’s Kiss, and a short called, The Bewitching Hour. I will also have a release from Samhain Publishing called Demon Dreamer, and that should be out in ebook June/July, then in print shortly afterward.

4.) Anything else you’d like to share? Yup, thanks to Anya for the play date. She rocks. And if you haven’t read one of her books, you don’t know what you are missing.

Readers, here is the contest part. Answer this question in the comments to be entered in a drawing for a copy of THE VAMPIRE’S QUEST. Check back to tomorrow for the announcement of the winner. The winner will have until May 5th (that’s the last day of the contest) to contact me in order to collect the prize. This contest IS open to non-US entrants.

Are you adequately prepared for zombie outbreak? How about a poltergeist infestation?:

Vivi says: Yes, I have a shovel and an ax. Both are good for knocking heads off. And ghosts are no problem with my shotgun loaded with rocksalt. I have my copy of The Supernatural book of Monsters, Spirits, Demons and Ghouls. Dean and Sam are my idols.

Okay, blog readers, how about you?

Good luck in today’s contest for DARING TIME, by Beth Kery. I met her at RT and she’s so sweet. Speaking of RT, I’ll do a post with pictures and stuff, but I require a bit of recovery time first. I’m down sick with the bug that attacks me every time I travel. I’ll put up a RT post as soon as I’m able. I’m reading through all the comments I missed over the last week and a lot of them are making me LOL. You guys are a hoot. I’m so glad I decided to host this contest.

Book of the Day: Daring Time, by Beth Kery

daringtime

He sees her, wants her, needs her…

Chicago Detective Ryan Daire has many secrets: a love for Shakespeare, an appreciation for the all the finer things in life, and an absolute lack of restraint in the bedroom. Now he has an even bigger secret. In every shifting shadow of the sprawling mansion he’s recently inherited he can see her—tempting, ethereal, and untouchable. Hope Stillwater inhabited that mansion in 1906. Raw desire has formed a conduit between these two passionate souls who are separated by the barrier of time.

Now he has to have her.

Intoxicated by each other’s presence, Ryan and Hope are closer than ever to crossing that inviting boundary between two worlds. But there is one grave danger: Ryan’s job has put him on the trail of a depraved criminal in an investigation that’s risking Hope’s eternal fate and happiness. Now he must do whatever it takes to change history, protect Hope from harm, and set his own desires free.

Author Bio: Beth Kery grew up in a huge house built in the nineteenth century where she cultivated her love of mystery and the paranormal. When she wasn’t hunting for secret passageways and ghosts with her friends, she was gobbling up fantasy and romance novels along with any other books she could get her hands on. Currently she juggles the demands of her career, her love of the city and the arts and a busy family life. Her writing today reflects her passion for all of the above. Beth writes for Berkley, Ellora’s Cave, Samhain and Whiskey Creek Press.

Interview Questions:

1.) How did you get started in writing and how long have you been doing it? I was first published with Ellora’s Cave in January of 2007. Before publication, I wrote for about two years.

2.) What genres/subgenres are your favorites to write within and do you have any aspirations to write outside your current genres/subgenres. Try something new? I’m in an erotic contemporary phase at the moment, but I also love paranormal and historical. Daring Time, which is a time travel, was ideal for me, because it contains elements of a contemporary, paranormal and historical. I’d like to try a romantic suspense. Several of my books already contain suspense elements, but I’ve never done a pure romantic suspense.

3.) What are you working on now and what releases do you have coming up? I just finished up an erotic contemporary for Berkley Heat called Release, which will come out in February of 2010. As far as upcoming releases, I have a paranormal coming out at Ellora’s Cave on 4/29/9 called Through Her Eyes, Daring Time on 5/5/9, an erotic contemporary from Berkley entitled Sweet Restraint on 7/7/9, and another erotic contemporary called Paradise Rules on 10/6/9.

4.)Anything else you’d like to share? Not that I can think of, Anya. Thank you for having me, and hello to all of your readers.

Readers, here is the contest part. Answer this question in the comments to be entered in a drawing for a copy of DARING TIME. Check back to tomorrow for the announcement of the winner. The winner will have until May 5th (that’s the last day of the contest) to contact me in order to collect the prize. This contest IS open to non-US entrants.

You’ve just inherited 20k from a long lost relative. The only stipulation is you must spend it in a frivolous manner–no paying bills, no saving it. What do you do with the windfall?:

Beth says: Oh, fun question. I’d use it to travel in Europe and Egypt. I love to travel, and although I’ve been to various places in Europe several times, I’ve always had a dream about seeing the pyramids. Travel is so expensive at present with the exchange rate, so yeah…thank you long lost relative and hello Sphinx and the Eiffel Tower.

Okay, blog readers, how would YOU spend the money?

Author Bio: Kit Tunstall lives in Idaho with her husband, son, and two spoiled dog-children. She enjoys writing erotic romance because it allows for full exploration of the developing relationship of the main characters. In her free time, she attends college, reads, gardens, travels, plays golf (badly), goes bowling with her family, and cooks.

Interview Questions:

1.) How did you get started in writing and how long have you been doing it? I’ve always been a scribbler and had several teachers in school tell me I had a gift. I didn’t consider it as a real career option until after I got married. My husband encouraged me to quit my day job and try writing full-time. I’ve been writing seriously since 2000.

2.) What genres/subgenres are your favorites to write within and do you have any aspirations to write outside your current genres/subgenres. Try something new? I enjoy all forms for romance, and erotic romance is probably the most fun to write. I also write horror and children’s novels, but probably won’t be crossing genres any time soon.

3.) What are you working on now and what releases do you have coming up? I’m working on a contemporary for Ellora’s Cave. Aside from the Vegas 2 release, I anticipate having another in the Hunters series out at Loose Id later in 2009 or early 2010.

4.) Anything else you’d like to share? Nope.

Readers, here is the contest part. Answer this question in the comments to be entered in a drawing for a copy of ASKING FOR IT. Check back to tomorrow for the announcement of the winner. The winner will have until May 5th (that’s the last day of the contest) to contact me in order to collect the prize. This contest IS open to non-US entrants.

You’re confronted in a dark alley by a gang of rabid, blood-thirsty vampires bent on bringing you over to the dark side. What do you do?:

Kit says: I’d rip open the collar of my shirt to help them along with the task. LOL.

Okay, blog readers, what would YOU do?

Book of the Day: SECRETS 22: Dark Whispers, featuring “Heat,” by Ellie Marvel

secrets

“Heat” by Ellie Marvel in Secrets 22: Dark Whispers

What’s a mild-mannered alien guy to do when he goes into heat far from
his home–and women of his species–and the only compatible female
around is a rough and tumble Terran mining specialist who’s a friend
of his but, well, not exactly one to hop into bed with anybody, much
less him? Answer: he courts her. The old fashioned Terran way, at
least insofar as his research about the backwater planet can
determine. Because if he can’t seduce the tomboyish Sarai before his
cycle ends, he won’t get a second chance at love.

Find out of Sarai responds to that age-old pick-up line, “If you don’t
have sex with me, my weenie will fall off!” (Okay, he doesn’t say
that, but it’s funny to think about.)

You can find Ellie:

Web Site

Author Bio: Jody Wallace writes romance fiction as herself and erotic romance as Ellie Marvel. She went to school a long time because she couldn’t find a job and ended up with a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing. Her resume includes college English instructor, technical documents editor, market analyst, web designer, and general all around pain in the butt. One of her many alter egos is “The Grammar Wench”, which should give you an indication of her character. She has always lived with cats, and they have always been mean. You can find out more about her at www.jodywallace.com or the cat’s site at www.meankitty.com

Interview Questions:

1.) How did you get started in writing and how long have you been doing it? This is a convoluted answer. I started writing for publication in grad school when I was getting my MFA. But I was writing poetry, which you typically submit to literary journals first. I had some poems
published, won some contests, but it fell by the wayside. I worked an office job for several years, got married, got pregnant, and in 2001
started writing fiction with the intent to publish. My first short fiction was released from a small press in 2005, and my first novel
was released from a small press in 2008. That novel was the first novel I completed, although it went through multiple drafts. My agent
has several other novels and proposals, so any day now I hope to add a mainstream publication credit to my resume.

2.) What genres/subgenres are your favorites to write within and
do you have any aspirations to write outside your current
genres/subgenres. Try something new?
My favorite genres are paranormal women’s fiction and romance. The particular book I’ve got up for grabs is an erotic science fiction romance and I really loved doing the worldbuilding for that. I loved it so much my Red Sage interactive ebook, Megan’s Choice, is set in the same “world” (would that be universe?). Some day I’d like to try some young adult or children’s fiction.

3.) What are you working on now and what releases do you have coming up? I’m working on a book involving werewolves and witches (no relation to Anya’s witches!), and my upcoming release is the print version of Survival of the Fairest from Samhain Publishing (May 2009).

4.) Anything else you’d like to share? Writers are often voracious readers. I thought I’d share the titles of a couple of the great books I’ve read this year.

GARDEN SPELLS by Sarah Addison Allen. This was a fabulous work of magic realism set in the contemporary South. I adored it and can’t
wait to read more work by this author!

IRON KISSED by Patricia Briggs. The 3rd Mercedes Thompson novel, one of my favorite series. The heroine becomes deeply entwined with the
fae community in this one, as opposed to the werewolves or the vamps from previous books. She also has to make up her mind about which dude
she’s going to hook up with, so the romance thread is a little stronger.

GETTING RID OF BRADLEY by Jennifer Crusie. This book has been out forever, I know, but I just now got around to it! Very funny book with
funny dogs and funny characters. Crusie’s heroines and heroes aren’t always the most admirable of folks but they’re convincing and readable
anyway.

BEWARE OF DOUG by Elaine Fox. An adorable contemporary romance, again with dogs, that was refreshing to my palate because it didn’t have a
huge action-adventure or high stakes kind of plot.

MIDNIGHT SINS by Cynthia Eden. A hot paranormal romance which I especially liked because the cop hero actually did cop things and — I
hope this isn’t a spoiler — I loved the fact that he put his job before his sex life in several spots! Admirable characterization.

Readers, here is the contest part. Answer this question in the comments to be entered in a drawing for a copy of SECRETS 22. Check back to tomorrow for the announcement of the winner. The winner will have until May 5th (that’s the last day of the contest) to contact me in order to collect the prize. This contest IS open to non-US entrants.

You have just been granted three wishes. What do you wish for? (No wishing for more wishes):

Ellie says: Healthy family (sounds like a Chinese take-out dish!) Diet sodas that taste as good, if not better, than regular sodas. I would order it with the Healthy Family stir fry. Humans all over the world to get more serious about preserving the environment (I figured World Peace was too big of a request….)

Okay, blog readers, what would you wish for?
